Bio

Deborah Edwards, the founder of The Visual Image studied art at Harrow Art College with her husband Colin. That was followed by a graphics degree in Exeter College of Art and Design. Within the graphics course Deborah specialised in photography and Colin in typography thus between them gaining the key specialisations needed to produce professional standards of design and photography.

Following graduation Deborah established a successful photography business and after some years Axminster Power Tools, one of her clients, asked her if she would like to help set up a new design and photography studio for them to produce their annual 150 page catalogue and regular advertising. This was challenge she readily accepted. As a career move this proved invaluable because of the magnitude of the projects. The experience gained during this time is exactly what clients of The Visual Image now benefit from.

In 2000 Deborah felt it was time to use her considerable experience of design, photography, print production and project management and so left Axminster Power Tools to establish The Visual Image.

Deborah is an active supporter of women in business - a rare thing in the Westcountry when she first started. She is a member of several women's business groups and has actively supported them throughout her working life. Many did not last but they were the grounding for the successful women's groups today. Deborah is now a councillor for the Devon Rape Crisis Service providing support for victims and has also supported DRCS with design and advice from the outset.

Over that same period, Colin had been invited to become the studio manager of a design company called Heriz Design & Print. After three years he moved on to become the first Creative Coordinator of the Stovax Group: the companies in this group are Stovax Stoves, Original Style tiles, Winchester Tiles, Gazco gas fires along with others. This allowed him to broaden his design to include designing and building photo sets, art directing photo shoots, designing and project managing exhibitions in the UK, USA, France and Germany and designing and project managing the production of new product ranges. Colin joined Deborah in The Visual Image in 2002.

Between them, they have a range of experience rarely matched by design companies. It is this experience that clients of The Visual Image benefit from and gives them the skill and creativity to produce the high standard of design and photography shown in this website.
